VARIATIONS- The variations that make up the 190 total virtual sets consist of different angles of the same set and/or different lighting scenarios (colors, lighting, intensity, etc. for mood change).

BLURS- All sets include a blurred version so you can give the illusion of being further away from the background. Sometimes this gives greater realism to the set when it's blurred. It is a matter of personal opinion as to which way is better, so we include both.

LIGHTING FOR CHROMAKEY - To get the best shot, light your subjects and the background separately. A green or blue background works best. We use a green cloth or Elite Video's pop-out green background. You can use $35 quartz lights on stands that you can get at your local hardware store, or you can use a soft light on your subject. You can also use the cloth outside, and if the natural lighting is good (the more overcast the better) you can key it in later when using your non-linear system. Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Avid, Avio and Kron systems all have Chromakey ability.

AVOIDING SHADOWS WITH CHROMAKEY - Your subject should be as far from the background as possible (a few feet) to avoid shadows hitting the backdrop. Shadows on the background can cause a problem with the "edge" of the subject. This is why a big background is better than a small one - it allows you to get further away and still have the background fill the screen completely.

RULE OF THUMB - As a rule, the bigger your subject is on the screen, the easier it is to chroma-key the subject. If you are new to keying, we suggest you start with a person as the subject from chest to head instead of trying to do a full body shot. Having them wear a hat makes it even easier to key (because hair is not a smooth edge). When you get better with the lights and your production gear/software, move to doing wider shots. Who knows - you may make your own " Honey I Shrunk the Kids" movie!

WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHERS - Bring a green cloth or pop out chroma background to the reception and do interviews in front of it. Then, key in the virtual sets in post production. Also great for doing the weather, or sports news, commercials, movie scenes or variety shows, - great at kids parties, barmitzvas, graduations-. The options are limitless.
